COVID-19: An alternative view and astrological clues

Laura Shaw

WHAT IF COVID-19 WAS OUR FRIEND?

All disease is the body’s attempt to correct an imbalance. The symptoms of the disease are a language that can be interpreted to understand how we are out of balance and how we can get back in harmony.

A pandemic is about correcting our imbalances globally, this why we are seeing deep changes socially, economically and environmentally.

There is some planetary intensity going on astrologically in 2020 that is forcing us to correct our course and to heal our imbalances as a planet as well as personally (more on this later).

Waging war against any disease, while at first seeming to create a “positive result”, meaning allowing the system to continue operating as usual, tends to be ultimately ineffective at the deepest level because, through disease, the system is saying that something is not right

“Fighting” a disease is akin to yelling at your reflection in the mirror. Instead, if we can befriend CoVid-19 we can try and understand how we got here and what we need to change in order to get back in harmony with ourselves, humanity and the planet.

The way this disease is manifesting in the body most frequently is of fullness – sinus or lungs – with an inability to expectorate or to let it go. Liquids in the body relate to emotions, often tears but also passion, and the “flow” of life. Water as an element is considered feminine or Yin.

This disease could be interpreted as a correction of too much Yang in the world, too much heat of doing and production.

The lungs are associated with grieving and fear. The chest area, or heart chakra, is associated with love and connection toward each other and compassion in general.

Thus, we have a picture of excess without an ability let go and unprocessed grieving which stagnates which is when it can develop into infections like pneumonia.

If we can befriend our experience through listening and engaging, no matter how frightening or unpleasant, then we can change and grow. It’s our attachment to comfort, familiarity, and habits that creates suffering and pain.

Surrendering and being obedient to life are not passive approaches. It doesn’t mean staring at your navel and sighing as everything goes to hell. It means listening to and engaging with “what is” and adapting and responding accordingly.

For some people, responding looks like tremendous action and a total change. For others, it may look like a physical process through getting sick. Or it might look like watching four seasons of Dancing with the Stars back-to-back. Possibly even all of the above all at once. Everyone will respond differently, but the key is to respond and to trust the process

We are being asked to rid ourselves of that which does not serve us. We are experiencing an opportunity to access the transformative power of our collective compassion. How we respond will inevitably alter the course of human history.

We have no control over how this will play out, but we can choose to act with grace and wisdom; to slow down and pay attention to what is right in front of us. We can proceed with love instead of fear. And we can open ourselves to receive the deep medicine of this moment.

ASTROLOGICAL CLUES

A few of my natural medicine colleagues and I have been comparing notes and agree that we have seen the energy and symptoms of this disease manifesting in clients since mid-December. While I’m not suggesting that the actual pathogen was in Minnesota prior to that, I am suggesting that certain more sensitive people may have been picking up on, and processing the energy of the cosmos that generated this disease.

Many astrologists held their breath on January 12th, expecting the worst. This was due to an intense constellation of planets that has historically meant major upheaval, destruction and revolution.

The conjunction of these intense planets occurred within 200 miles of where the first Corona case was documented.

The last time Saturn conjoined Pluto in Capricorn was in 1517-1519, coinciding with the Reformation which is usually what’s referenced when this conjunction is mentioned. There was also an epidemic at that time that started in Holland with symptoms that sound awfully similar to the Corona virus.

What this astrology means for us is that we’re being called on the carpet to our act together and to leave behind anything that no longer serves us. Basically, all of our institutions and systems are being called into question as well as how we relate – to each other, to nature, to our bodies, to our finances, to our food, to our homes, and to our communities.

The first of the Jupiter/Pluto meetings occurred on April 4th, with the second phase occurring on June 30th and the final phase on November 12th.

We are now in the second stage of the planetary clearinghouse fueled by Jupiter-Pluto conjunction. Now that everything has been destroyed, how do we rebuild? Jupiter tells us how to interact with each other for the common good, but when Jupiter conjoins with Pluto we have to redefine common good entirely.

One other interesting astrological note is the shift from Saturn in Capricorn to Saturn in Aquarius, or, as fellow herbalist Phyllis Light said, “We are being drop-kicked into Aquarius.”

Saturn arrived in Aquarius, the sign of humanity, community, science, and technology, on March 21, 2020 for the first time since 1994. With Saturn shifting into Aquarius, the focus will shift to a more idealistic vision of what the world should be. Over the coming years we’re taking social connection seriously. We’re building new networks, literally. We’re innovating with science and technology. We’re understanding the value and importance of community.
