Get unstuck and breakthrough with walnut flower essence
Laura Shaw
Walnut flower essence is a remedy that finds its way into roughly 50% of the blends I formulate for my clients. This is because, although many people want change and growth, they find that they are unable to achieve true growth because they are stuck.
Maybe they are stuck in a pattern of choosing bad relationships, stuck in a job, or stuck in their parents’ basement either metaphorically or literally. There is usually a correlating physical stuck-ness as well and often in the voice, throat, mouth and jaw area.
The reason why walnut flower essence is so effective at helping people get un-stuck, is because of is unique growth strategy.
The walnut tree emits an enzyme that renders the soil under its canopy infertile for most plants. This is why you rarely see anything growing under or near a walnut tree. The enzyme protects the walnut tree’s territory and prevents other plants from growing too close and taking over, a common problem for other trees. While this is a great strategy for the walnut tree, it makes it difficult for the walnut seeds who want to start their own tree.
The way the walnut tree dealt with this was to encase the seeds in a large, round husk nearly the size of a tennis ball. This way, when the seed falls from the tree, it gets a good bounce and roll, landing far enough away from the parent tree that it can start its own growth.
This signature is the medicine of the walnut tree and is why walnut can help remind us how to break free from strong influences and old patterns so that we can make a fresh start on our own terms rather than someone else’s terms. It also helps us to break free from any influence that feels limiting or that stifles our expression of who we truly are such as institutions, culture, or religion.
Walnut flower essence is the key component in a “Transition Remedy” which also includes the flower essences, Cerato to help us trust our own knowing, and Centaury, which helps when we have been too accommodating, also known as “the doormat remedy.” Wild Oat flower essence is the final component in the blend because it helps us find our calling and direction, our “Soul’s purpose,” as Bach, who discovered flower essences says. With these components, you can imagine how powerful a cocktail the combination could be for creating change and getting unstuck.
“Transition Remedy,” is helpful for any life changing experiences such as moving homes, starting a new job, getting married, giving birth, for young adults leaving home or their parents dealing with a empty nest. Walnut flower essence in particular will be effective in any situation where someone needs to break free from strong influences that are limiting their true expression.
Walnut in its herbal form, which is a much more concentrated preparation of the walnut hulls, is my number one remedy for thyroid imbalance. The walnut even looks like a thyroid. The biological role of the thyroid is to regulate metabolism, growth and maturation in the body.
The thyroid is located in the throat chakra which connects the head with the heart. The throat chakra is where our unique expression of who we are originates. Energetically, this is the center of how we express, listen and assert our will into the world.
All physical problems begin with blockage in our etheric, or, energetic body often understood or described in terms of chakras or energy centers. If the energetic block isn’t released in the etheric body, then, over time, the block becomes condensed into a problem in our physical body symbolizing, literally, the issue. When we aren’t expressing who we are in the world, this area becomes blocked, resulting in problems related to this area such as a tight jaw, problems with teeth, voice, gums, or thyroid.
A healthy thyroid supports the digestive tract, lowers blood pressure and decreases respiration. It enhances communication and decision making. The thyroid symbolizes self-expression and hearing one’s inner voice. When balanced, it strengthens creative self-expression in all forms.
Women tend to have more thyroid issues than men. One reason for this could be that women tend to do more care-giving and can feel pulled in many directions – career, home, children. Many women are taught to put other’s needs before their own and that their opinions and perspectives aren’t important. Figuring out how to balance these often-conflicting topics and how to allow your truth to be expressed in the world can be challenging.
Women with thyroid problems usually struggle with expressing their voice because they are concerned about keeping the peace or receiving approval. This creates a “disconnect” between what one thinks, what is or isn’t said, and one’s truth.
Louise Hay, author or “You Can Heal Your Life” says that thyroid function generally has to do with self-expression, but specifically about “having my turn” to do so. The throat area is connected with “our ability to speak up for ourselves, ask for what we want,” and if we don’t know what we want or back down from our desires, then this “usually means that we do not feel that we have right to these things.”
We all have a unique contribution to make in the world and natural talent waiting to be accepted and expressed.
Walnut flower essence helps you give yourself permission to design your life in the way that you need to live it without guilt or fear that you are hurting others. It supports us to accept and love all aspects of who we are and what we create.
Walnut flower essence can be purchased at your local co-op or Whole Foods. It is also widely available online at retailers such as Amazon.
I recommend starting with 1-2 drops under your tongue once a day and then building up gradually to more doses per day. The drops should be held in your mouth for at least 20 seconds before swallowing, allowing the essence to absorb into your mouth’s lining. Then, hold on for the ride as you break free.
